North America’s red fire ant might be little, but the tiny critters have a painful bite which causes a burning sensation – hence the name “fire ant.” Fire ants have only one known predator, this daring insect is the phorid fly. Fire ants are interested in electrical currents, and they can be the reason behind the damages you see on the lines. They will chew on wires which can lead to short circuits, or worse, fire accidents.
