About ScentBase

• What is ScentBase?

  ScentBase is a website that helps you keep track of your perfume collection (and soaps and scrubs and... you get the idea). Keep track of what you've tried, what you have, what you wish you had, and what you have for swap.

  My Base helps you keep track of all the things you've tried.
  My Stash helps you keep track of the scents you currently own.
  My Wishes is a list of the scents you'd like to have, and in what amounts.
  My Swaps is a list of the scents you're open to swapping or selling.
  My Profile is a page you can share with your friends.
  My Friends shows you a list of your friends and their latest activity.

• How much does ScentBase cost?

  ScentBase is free to use, and we are committed to keeping it free for our users. It is not, however, free for us to operate. If you'd like to toss a few bucks our way to support ScentBase, that would be really kind of you!

• Do I have to live in the US to use ScentBase?

  Definitely not! Anyone can open a ScentBase account, and we're proud to have users from all over the globe. (International users should take note, however, that our site is only available in English at this time.)

• I'm a perfumer / soap maker / etc. Can I create an account and add my products to ScentBase?

  Absolutely! We would be thrilled to have you, in fact. Making sure our information is correct and up-to-date is important to us. It's also a challenge! When creators add their products to ScentBase directly, we know the data we have is accurate, and we love that.

• Base... Stash... Swaps... What does all this stuff mean?

  My Base

  This is where you can find a list of all the scents you've tried and rated on ScentBase, regardless of whether you've indicated that you own a particular product.

  My Stash

  This is a list of the products you've indicated (by selecting a product size) that you personally own. The sizes are very general – sample, "regular" / standard size product, and large size. The reason for this is that products come in so many different sizes, it's difficult to provide a complete list of all possible options.

  My Swaps

  You can use this area to create a list of products you have that you are open to swapping or selling to someone else. Just send a friend the link to your profile, and they can find your swap list (as long as you've set the privacy option for swaps to public, or friends-only if your friend is another ScentBase user.

  Please note that all swaps or sales take place off-site. ScentBase is not involved with or responsible for swap activities. Always exercise caution when swapping! If you're swapping with someone you don't know well, we recommend asking for references, such as links to eBay reviews, or feedback provided through forums, Facebook swap groups, etc.

  My Wishes

  Use My Wishes to create a wish list of products you'd like to have. If you've set the privacy option for wishes to public (or friends-only if you'd like to share with other ScentBase users), you can share your list with friends and family.

How to use ScentBase

• How do I add a scent to my Base?

  There are a couple different ways to do this, depending on what you want to do with it.

  1. Just click on a star to rate it. It will automatically be added to your Base.
  2. Click the Add to Base link to add scents to your Base without rating them.

  

• How do I add a scent to my Stash?

  Anytime you add a scent to your Base (either by clicking on the star icons to rate it, or by clicking the Add to Base button), you will be given an option to add it to your Stash or Swaps.

  Just select "My Stash" from the drop-down menu, and enter the number of samples, regular size, and/or large products you have.

  Click the Save button to save the scent to your Stash.

  

• How do I add a scent to my Wishes?

  Look for the "Add to Wishes" link to add a scent to your wish list.

  

• How do I add a scent to my Swaps?

  Anytime you add a scent to your Base (either by clicking on the star icons to rate it, or by clicking the Add to Base button), you will be given an option to add it to your Swaps or Stash.

  Just select "My Swaps" from the drop-down menu, and enter the number of samples, regular size, and/or large products you have.

  Click the Save button to save the scent to your Swaps.

  

• How do I place an order?

  ScentBase is not a store.

  ScentBase is a web app that helps our users keep track of perfumes and other bath/beauty products they have tried, want to try, or own.

  To purchase a product, you'll need to visit the manufacturer's website. If a scent you want isn't currently available (which happens often; many of the products in our database are limited editions, prototypes, or have been discontinue), you might try eBay, or checking swaps / sales groups on Facebook.

• How do I change my account options?

  Click the "My Account" link to edit your account preferences, including:

  • Username
  • Email address
  • Password
  • Privacy settings
  • Profile information (name, location, social links, bio, and profile photo)

• How do I change my email address?

  To change your email address:

  1. Click the "My Account" tab link.
  2. Enter your new email address in the "Email address" field.
  3. Click the Save button at the bottom of the page.

• How do I change my password?

  To change your password:

  1. Click the "My Account" tab link.
  2. On the next page, click the "Change Password" link (look for the pencil icon to the right of this text). You will see a white dialog box will pop up.
  3. Enter your current password in the space provided.
  4. Enter the new password you have selected in the "New password" field.
  5. Enter the new password again in the "Confirm password" field.
  6. Click the Save button.

• How do I control who can see my profile?

  You can determine who can see your profile – and what they can see – by adjusting your privacy settings, which are located under the "My Account" tab.

  Profile Privacy

  This is the general, global privacy setting for your entire profile. If you don't want anyone else to be able to see your profile at all, select the "Private" option here. If you only want other ScentBase users whom you've added to friends to be able to see your profile, select the "Friends Only" option. If you want your profile to be publicly available so that you can share it with friends outside ScentBase, select the "Public" option (don't worry; you can tweak these settings a little more with the options below!).

  If you've selected Friends Only or Public as your global privacy setting, you can further adjust the different parts of your profile using the settings below.

  My Base Privacy

  This setting controls who can see your Base (all your ratings and any unrated scents you've added to your Base). You can select "Public" to show your Base on your public profile; "Friends Only" to share it only with ScentBase users on your friends list; or "Private" if you prefer to be the only one who can see your Base.

  My Stash Privacy

  This setting controls who can see your Stash (scents you've added to the list of products you own). You can select "Public" to show your Stash on your public profile; "Friends Only" to share it only with ScentBase users on your friends list; or "Private" if you prefer to be the only one who can see your Stash.

  My Swaps Privacy

  This setting controls who can see your Swaps (scents you've added to the list of products you're willing to swap or sell). You can select "Public" to show your Swaps on your public profile; "Friends Only" to share it only with ScentBase users on your friends list; or "Private" if you prefer to be the only one who can see your Swaps.

  My Wishes Privacy

  This setting controls who can see your Wishes. You can select "Public" to show your wish list on your public profile; "Friends Only" to share it only with ScentBase users on your friends list; or "Private" if you prefer to be the only one who can see your Wishes.

• How do I change my profile pic?

  To upload a new profile pic:

  1. Click the "My Account" tab link.
  2. Hover over your current profile photo on the right side of the next page (or the silhouette placeholder image if you haven't uploaded a profile pic before), and click the white camera icon.
  3. Select the image file you want to upload (must be in PNG, JPG or GIF format).
  4. Wait for the image to upload (note: if you're using a mobile device, uploading a full-size photo can take a minute, so be patient).
  5. Once your photo uploads, you will see an option to crop your photo. Move the crop window around your image until you are happy with the cropped version.
  6. Click the Save button.

• I forgot my password! How do I reset it?

  1. Go to the login page and click the "Forgot password?" link.
  2. Enter your username or the email address associated with your account and click the Submit button.
  3. A link to reset your password will be sent to the email address we have on file for your account.

  What if I don't have access to that email address anymore?
  Send an email to cam@scentbase.com or send us a message on Facebook and we'll work with you to verify that it's your account and restore your access.
