Greek goddess of the harvest, she is credited with teaching humans how to grow, preserve, and prepare grain. Demeter was also thought to be responsible for the fertility of the land. When she found that her daughter, Persephone, who was also known as the child, Kore (or Cora), had been abducted by Hades, Demeter let the land grow barren and the harvests ceased. When Persephone returned, the land again flourished. Demeter's message reminds us of the seasons of a person's life, that even though there are times of great sorrow there is also great joy to be found. The earth in all its glory: petigrain, galbanum, yellow rose, cyclamen, and green notes, rounded out with olibanum, patchouli, sandalwood, and Virginia cedarwood, along with rich musks and Madagascar vanilla.
