The Wild Hunt is an ancient folk myth prevalent across Northern, Western and Central Europe. The hunters are faerie and ghostly humans, who, along with their hounds and dogs, run across the autumnal or winter sky or just above the ground in mad pursuit of their quarry. Famous leaders of Wild Hunts include Gwydion, Gwynn ap Nudd, Fionn mac Cumhaill and the Fianna, King Arthur, Nuada, King Herla, Woden, Count Arnau, and Herne the Hunter.

The breath of the wild northern forest on a full moon night. An uncivilized tangle of balsam pine, cypress needles, cedar bark, teakwood, vetiver root, galbanum, lichen, moss, dried leaves, damp earth, and forest fungi.

Sometimes the hunters became the hunted. Members of the Wild Hunt were known to fall prey to the seductive charms of the beautiful Moss Maidens, who often took Wild Huntsmen as their lovers.
