No matter how many times your throw that STUPID ring at the STUPID bottles, it NEVER WORKS. Sure, intellectually you know the opening of the ring is only a few millimeters wider than the thing you're trying to fit it over, but that's not important! Hope is its own reward! Life is about taking chances! You throw...and you FAIL. Again.
This is the scent for the last ring in your hand, the one you're going to throw as soon as you conquer the growing certainty that the result will be exactly the same as all the other times. Bitter herbs: wormwood, black pepper, pitch-mired dregs of hope, and the tears of those who tried and failed before you. Go on, throw the ring. Throw it anyway.
