This scent is Holly's love song to her favorite particle accelerator, but it is also a scent of DOOM!

A strangelet is a still-hypothetical subatomic particle composed of three different kinds of quarks: down, up, and strange, in roughly equal quantities. Normally a few femtometers across, under the right conditions they could reach macroscopic sizes and this — this is the kicker — theoretically achieve greater particle stability than normal atomic nuclei.

Naturally there are heaps of acrimony in the scientific community regarding the likelihood of this, but we're ignoring that and going with the fun option. The short version is that if the LHC manages to cough up a big enough strangelet, everything turns into more strangelets! And life as we know it ceases to exist. :)

This is the scent of that strange new world: an odd, bracing cocktail of ambergris, pale green lettuce, mint stalks, and a big splash of polyvalent fizz.
