Praya dubia, the Great Siphonophore.
Siphonophores (like Praya dubia and the Portuguese man o'war) are fascinating beasties. Your body has a bunch of different species living in it and with it, helping to keep it functioning and healthy, and the mitochondria in your cells might once have been a separate organism adopted wholesale. But siphonophores take that even further: instead of being a host for symbiotic species, they are multiple different species functioning as a single creature.
They straddle the fence between colony organisms like coral and complex multicellular organisms like snails and fish and cats and bees and Holly and Ariel. THIS IS SO COOL.
Praya dubia is the largest siphonophore: up to 160 feet of sinuous, bioluminescent cooperation prowling the deep ocean. We made a glimmering dark scent to match. Mace and neroli drift through a sea of blue amber, black oakwood, and vetiver root.
