When is a beard not a beard?
A. When it's a detachable face accessory
B. When it's a French feminist movement
C. When it's French slang for "boring."
D. A, B, C and D.

Yep, it's D! Our times have seen both a resurgence of fun false facial fur and felt for fashion (say that three times fast) and ongoing political struggles over gender and sexism (which some may find boring, but are pretty important to work out). Members of the French feminist movement La Barbe briefly took over the French Senate on National French Heritage Day wearing false beards to make a visual point about sexism in France.

Sadly, the word "feminist" has gotten such bad connotations in recent years that people who actually do believe in what the word means — equal social, political and economic rights for women, no more and no less — don't want to say they're feminists, because then people might accuse them of hating men. A few of the loudest voices in any sociopolitical movement may feel that way, but this, beautiful people, is really sad. Real feminism is not about wanting women to win and men to lose. It's about wanting everybody to have an equal voice regardless of sex or gender, and that is not something that should make anyone feel a need to apologize. All genders produce great people. A person of one gender being really cool does not diminish people of another gender. We can in fact all win this game at the same time. <3

So I'm naming this light, classically feminine floral scent in honor of both the ladies wearing false beards just for fun, and for frustrated French women trying to get an equal voice. Why? Because I want to say that there is nothing unfeminine about feminism, and also because some girls who wear fake beards like flowers too.

Dab it on and feel feminine, whatever else you're wearing: iris, heliotrope, faintly sweetened green tea with a hint of matcha, and galbanum.
