All the Pirates

Yves Saint Laurent Limited Edition Perfume Oil (Limited)

There once was a woman in China who had all the pirate ships.

ALL OF THEM.

Reports have it that the woman now best known as Ching Shih or Cheng I Sao was working as a prostitute when she met pirate captain Zheng Yi in 1801, then quickly became not only his wife but his equal partner and the manager of his fortunes. After his death, she kept the reins by appointing his second in command as the official fleet admiral and continuing to manage things so well that the Emperor eventually paid her to retire in 1810. She opened a gambling house, married the man she'd appointed as her fleet admiral, and lived to be a 69-year-old grandmother.

This scent celebrates her: remarkable management skills, such business acumen that she had a fleet of ships, and the imposition of rules of conduct and laws upon a fleet so vast it not only raided towns, it got them to pay tribute and taxes in exchange for not being raided.

Dried red pepper flakes, piles of loot coated in a sticky, resinous layer of sweetened smoke, strong green tea, and a hint of the fleshly pleasures.
