During the golden age of piracy, Tortuga, a small Haitian island, was a popular haven for pirate debauchery. An island heavily contested by the French and the Spanish, it eventually became home to a group of buccaneers that called themselves the "Brethren of the Coast," adhering to their own code of conduct that guaranteed financial equity and compensation for all its members.

Tortuga is the scentof the trade: Smoky clove, market spices, red cedar, well-worn leather, and a whisper of salt.
