St. Swithin is an English saint, and the bishop of Winchester, who asked to be buried outdoors in his parish graveyard. The parishioners buried him indoors and that breach of the saint's wishes caused it to rain for 40 days to show his displeasure. So, there is a superstition about the weather and the saint's day:
St. Swithin's day if thou dost rain
For forty days it will remain
St. Swithin's day if thou be fair
For forty days 'twill rain nae mair.
