Strong and sweet, the ineffable scent of lilacs combined with a whiff of smoke, knit together with a shot of resin. Is that Hell, a spectacular end at the stake, or a bit of snuff from a candle? Or is it all 3? The driving force in Western Europe during the Middle Ages, the Catholic Church used to sell "indulgences" which were like "get out of purgatory (the Folsom Prison of the Afterlife) free" cards. They are written about in Chaucer and other sources, and survived until the present day where you can gain an indulgence for merely saying the right prayer at the right time. Still one of the most interesting institutions around, someone needs to celebrate them in perfume.
