Pan

Perfume for the wild one.

Pan is the Wild God of Nature. He is the Greek version of the European "Horned One", the Father God of the Forest, who stands for the Wild Forces of Nature. The Passion that drives Stags to mate in spring is his, the divine force that brings the sap of the trees back up out of the ground, bursting into new shoots after the end of Winter. Pan represents everything that is Wild and Free.

One of my favourite books is "Jitterbug Perfume" by Tom Robbins, which is a story about Pan and his intoxicating pheromones, and his journey around the world searching for perfume ingredients to match his own scent. The story is a take on the traditional myths about Pan, who's scent is supposed to drive man and beast wild wherever he goes. This perfume is my homage to him. It's central note is Indian Patchouli which is Sacred to Pan. Patchouli oil is distilled from the root of the Patchouli grass. It is said to be a potent aphrodisiac, and contains plant steroids which are precursors to our own hormones. It is a deep and musky scent, earthy and sexual, sweet and animalistic all at the same time. I combined it with Oakmoss resinoid, which is a dry, earthy scent, which always reminds of ancient forests, grandfather oak trees and deep secret places in nature. These two musky scents are added to the wild herbal scents of Thyme, Majoram and Rosemary, which all grow wild on the Greek Isles. (It's got a few other spicy ingredients, but we don't want to give them all away here, grin! Have a sniff and see if you can guess them! We're giving away a free bottle to anyone who does!)

This isn't a perfume for the faint hearted. Pan is anything but tame, and the perfume itself has a pretty full on effect on those who wear it, as well as those around them. It seems to bring out the wild side in it's wearer, and it never ceases to fascinate me, watching the evil grin that spreads over peoples faces the first time they smell it.

It's become a bit of a cult classic this one. We sold a few of the first bottles to some gay men who wandered into our first stall at a major new age fair. And they came back with friends next time we were there to buy more. It seems Pan's aphrodisiac energy worked true to form, and having had some truly wild nights on the town, everyone wanted to have a bottle of it. It's a great perfume for men and women, gay and straight. Wear it if you want to bring out that hidden side of yourself you've never dared to show. And wear it if you are already a true Pan, and as Wild as they come too!

Bottom line seems to be though, if you don't want to get laid, don't wear it.
